Valentine's Weekend Tribute to the Great American Songbook

The stage at Loft129 is proud to present a Valentine’s weekend tribute to the Great American Songbook with pianist and vocalist Barry Gurley backed by featured saxophone soloist Jared Sims along with Jim Roderick on bass and Mark Gauthier on drums.  This outstanding group will celebrate the music of composers Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hart, George Gershwin, Jimmy Van Heusen, Jerome Kern, and many others. Tickets $11, $12 at the door. Doors open at 7. Cash bar. No BYOB permitted. No food permitted.

Jared Sims Bio

Jared Sims performs on all of the saxophones as well as clarinet and flute. He has toured throughout the United States and in Europe, South America, and Asia. Sims has performed/recorded with a diverse array of artists including Rufus Reid, Matt Wilson, Han Bennink, Cecil McBee, Bob Brookmeyer, Oteil Burbridge, Melvin Sparks, Soulive, Temptations, Four Tops, 10,000 Maniacs, Artie Shaw Orchestra, and Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra. He has headlined venues in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, New York, Boston, Washington, Seattle, and Pittsburgh. His newest recording Against All Odds (Origin) is a full length album of original compositions released in 2022. Music Republic Magazine calls Sims “one of the most exciting saxophonists and band leaders heard in a long time.” He is currently the Director of Jazz Studies at West Virginia University and has experience teaching at University of Rhode Island, University of New Hampshire, and Boston University.
