Underlined Passages and Friends!

A triple treat of Indie Rock!!

From Baltimore, MD… indie rock featuring Underlines Passages, with opening acts NAYAN and Nicky Stacy.

Underlines Passages

The duo-Jamaal Turner and Michael Nestor-bring a strong musical reputation with a core loyal fanbase that has followed the band by appealing to listeners passionate about indie rock/pop songwriting that is guitar-driven, emotionally intense, and ephemeral. The band's sheer grit and work ethic have slowly and steadily won over audiences at venues large and small across the Northeast US-even though many of us are oversaturated with seemingly infinite choices in alternative rock.

Underlined Passages’ hard work and dedication to musicianship have paid off by an ever-increasing network of supporters both physical and virtual who “get” the nostalgic-yet-modern rock the band has been creating. (RIYL: early ‘aughts Nada Surf, American Football, and Promise Ring).

If you are into heartfelt indie rock in the tradition of early Pedro The Lion and late ‘aughts emo…

Underlined Passages is for you and you will want to see this hard-working band in action live!

Their newest release, the Neon Inoculation (Mixtape) is a YouTube-only release set up for the listener to engage as they would a traditional record. Via YouTube, the listener can take in the sequence as one long movement with interspersed mini-songs and interludes/bagatelles-a shout-out to the lo-fi indie mixtapes before internet 2.0 and social media (and how the band would prefer listeners to engage.)

NAYAN

Band leader Nayan Bhula can't shake Rock N Roll.  Hearing those first few notes of "Dazed and Confused" as a middle schooler led to a three decade plus spiral.  Looking like your "Dad's accountant or doctor" (actual after show quote), he’s spent decades in the local scene and touring, tearing down those stereotypes of rock n roll.  He started with post-punk outfit GIST who released 3 full length albums and toured up and down the East Coast & Canada. This transformed to a decade with the 8-piece orchestrated indie-rock ensemble The NRIs, who released five EPs. At the end of 2021 it was time for a change, it was time to double down as the only South African/Indian/Canadian/American rock musician (story for another day).  The new band leans on his post-punk, indie rock roots, and adds some synths. Taking inspiration from DC punk, an unwavering devotion to classic rock n roll, and the 80s New Wave he grew up on.  Recording was done at DC's Ivakota and the band did one of the last sessions at famed Inner Ear Studios with Don Zientara, before it was torn down. Rock N Roll may have ruined his life or it may have saved it - that's still up for debate.  New Record "Rock N Roll Ruined My Life" was released on 2/29/2024.
