The Shoats

Weaving together strands of old-time fiddle tunes, R&R, honky tonk, and the Appalachian high-lonesome sound, The Shoats electrifies audiences with unique renditions of old songs and quality originals. The group is comprised of brothers Gus and Huck Tritsch from Millheim, PA, and Morgantown, WV native Mary Linscheid.

The Tritsch brothers are well known in the State College area for their eclectic R&R band called The Wicked Chicken, and Gus has toured internationally with the R&R band Marah and old-time artist Jake Blount. He also won the Appalachian String Band Music Festival’s Best New Tune contest with his original fiddle tune called “Bird Got the Cherries” in 2019. Huck, who placed first in Appalachian String Band Music Festival’s youth fiddle contest in 2019 and 2022, also plays percussion with bands Chicken Tractor and Crater and the Catalyst. Both brothers performed with Jake Blount for his NPR Tiny Desk Concert debut released in January of 2023.

Mary Linscheid–fiddler, songwriter, and student of Appalachian singing traditions–is rooted in the Morgantown, WV music scene both as a solo artist and for performing with country and folk music acts such as Chris Haddox, the WVU Appalachian Ensemble, and Charles Wesley Godwin. She released her first EP called “A Place to Grow Old” in June of 2022–original songs and a fiddle tune that explore Appalachians’ connection with the place they call home. $12 per ticket
